Ambiansu - Tagebuch

Many of you know that I have a one-man-band called Merankorii, but only a few know that I also have another musical project, called Ambiansu.

After interviewing M., the person behind the one-man-band "Ambience", whose latest album "As Dez Esperas" I considered one of the 10 best albums of 2007, we kept contact, and one thing leading to another made us want to try something different. The result, Ambiansu is more or less what you could expect from a fusion of Merankorii and Ambience styles (and something that people are generally describing as better than any of those two projects alone, but I'll leave that for you to decide).

Almost two years later, we had a musical project with one album released: "Tagebuch".

Tagebuch is an opus of 5 pieces, a mix of what's classical with what's disruptive, and what's traditional with what's unconventional. Instead of entering into much details, I'll instead ask you to listen. It was released in a 500 copies limited edition CD in card box, and it costs only 8€ (postage included). And the best part of it? If you buy it until the end of the year, for each CD you buy, I'll offer one to a library.

Before you ask: no, we don't intend to have the album for sale in digital form. On the other hand, it costs less than your typical mp3 album, I'll offer one to a library with each purchase, and you can always rip it to your favorite format and give the CD to a friend (yes, this is a promise that we won't charge you for "piracy" or any other of those silly things).

[Merankorii - Angellore] new album released!

Merankorii's 7th album, [Merankorii - Angellore], was released yesterday, 15th February 2009.

This album, a split with Angellore, shows two faces of the same story - We - one noisy and urban (Merankorii), and the other neofolkish and pagan (Angellore).

The album was released in a 60 copies limited edition by NgH Productions, and it is the first Merankorii album in a printed CD.

As many of you know by know, I have an experimental/dark ambient musical project named "Merankorii". Well, today Merankorii's 4th album has been released, in a split CD released with Bardic Wisdom.

Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 released

Debian GNU/Linux 4.0 released today - congratulations to all Debian Developers and the release team.

GNUnet 0.7.1c released

GNUnet is a framework for secure peer-to-peer networking that does not use any centralized or otherwise trusted services. A first service implemented on top of the networking layer allows anonymous censorship-resistant file-sharing. GNUnet uses a simple, excess-based economic model to allocate resources. Peers in GNUnet monitor each others behavior with respect to resource usage; peers that contribute to the network are rewarded with better service.

For now mostly used for file sharing and storage, it will soon have a revamped gnunet-chat tool so you can use the GNUnet anonymous and encripted network to chat, and an anonymizer layer so you can run any application you want above GNUnet.

Todays news: download GNUnet 0.7.1c and gnunet-gtk 0.7.1c here. For the first time, we also have a release of gnunet-qt.
The most significant change is that expired content will no longer be propagated or shown to end-users. As a result, expect to see significantly fewer search results, but also significantly higher download success rates.
This release fixes a couple of other bugs discovered in 0.7.1b and adds a few minor features:

• Added support for IO load detection
• Enabled abortion of gnunet-peer-info with CTRL-C
• Fixed potential deadlock during download shutdown sequence (could impact any GNUnet download application)
• Fixed handling of -d option by gnunet-download
• gnunet-gtk shows a few additional statistics and uses less CPU for statistics processing
• Issues with wrong paths for gettext (internationalization) in gnunet-gtk have been fixed

Finally, gnunet-gtk has been replaced by gnunet-qt in the Windows package.
Updating should be trivial but gnunet-update will run much longer than usual. Please see UPDATING.

Debian Installer Etch Release Candidate 2 released

This is already three days old news: Debian etch (4.0) RC2 is out there. To see the release schedule and what has to happen until the final Debian 4.0 comes out to the wild, check this. The nicest thing (for me, it is) of this release is this:

With this release of the installer, Debian also offers some new types of CD/DVD images:

• a full CD that installs a KDE desktop environment by default
• a full CD that installs an Xfce desktop environment by default
• a multi-architecture CD for i386/amd64/powerpc and one for alpha/hppa/ia64 that effectively behave like a netinst CD (the images contain the base system for all three architectures)
• a multi-architecture DVD for i386/amd64/powerpc which also includes source packages; this makes the image ideal for promotion purposes at trade shows and other events

Stuff

With the lack of time, here's a big bunch of random stuff you might be interested of:

• So, my new album is finaly out, you can buy it here for only 5€.
• Timbaland has been ripping off other musicians.
• The world smallest PC just shows that there's too much free time in some hands.
• And this is a great piece of hardware, too bad that it is so expensive, and that they have no external version of it. Plus, I doubt that they have linux drivers for it.
• I have to read this article with more time, but it's basicly showing history repeating itself - talking about RIAA,
• And that happens when privately, Hollywood admits DRM isn't about piracy.
• Deviated Sister T.V. new album is out now.
